A group of us are coming up to participate in the Snow shoe races and are very excited. Last year was a blast! We are worried about the lack of snow… is there any chance the race could be postponed?? We are hoping not!! Looking forward to this fun race and the start of Conquer the Bear!!

The race will go on… right now because of lack of snow… we have changed the rules.. Snowshoes are optional… your choice of footwear. There is plenty of snow at the top of the course, but not much at the start. Strategy will be key! The adventure is on!

Any good places around Big Bear / Lake Arrowhead to snowshoe to practice? Where is snow? (Any good places where I can also take my dog?)

      It’s SLIM right now man!
But if you come up, you can find snow, indeed.
Swing into Bear Valley bikes, and they can direct you. Best bet is to maybe wait for these storms to hit!!!

With the recent storm that hit the valley last week what are the current conditions for the 5K race? Is there enough coverage for snowshoes from the start of the race to the top of the course?

Is there a time limit? This would be my first time doing snowshoeing…not sure if i should do a 5k or 10K?

    • January 22, 2013 4:44 pm

Hi Cynthia! If you are fit, and a runner, you will love the 10k !
If not, come try the 5km, you’ll love either. If you can walk, you can snow shoe…
      See you there!!!

1st timer here – what is the terrain like for the 5K and 10K?

5k has a little hill to start and then is a fairly flat out and back. The 10k is a climb to the turn around and then is downhill on the return.

This looks like a fantastic event and I’m really looking forward to it. Can someone confirm for me: do you literally race in snowshoes? Or just be prepared to run on snow? From the pictures, it doesn’t look like anyone’s wearing snowshoes.

    Thanks!

Yes! Looks like this year we are going to race on Snowshoes! 1 foot of fresh snow today!

My time under 2013 results is not accurate. kind of disappointing. Its off by about 25 minutes. Luckily for me, I used my watch to keep track.. Besides that, Fun race! I will be back next year. I hope time results can be more accurate next year. Maybe have runners carry sensors? Just a friendly suggestion.

Chris – What is your number? Did you race the 5k? the 10K? Let me check on it and I’ll get back to you. Karen

Chris – New results were posted … somehow there got to be two people entered with your same bib number. Your time is now corrected on the results. Thanks. Karen
